5-Day Ultimate Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking Safari
This 5-day itinerary offers international clients a comprehensive and immersive chimpanzee trekking experience in Uganda, focusing on Kibale Forest National Park, with overland travel for a deeper appreciation of Uganda’s diverse landscapes.
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe & Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport (EBB), clients will be met by a representative and begin their scenic overland transfer to Kibale Forest National Park (approximately 6-7 hours). This journey offers glimpses of rural Ugandan life and changing landscapes. Kibale is renowned as the “Primate Capital of East Africa” due to its high concentration of primate species.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest National Park & Bigodi Wetlands Walk
After an early breakfast, clients will head to the park headquarters for a pre-tracking briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. The thrilling chimpanzee tracking experience begins, typically lasting 1-2 hours. Once located, clients will spend an unforgettable hour observing their behavior in their natural habitat. In the afternoon, clients will embark on a guided nature walk through the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-managed eco-project offering opportunities to spot various monkey species and diverse birdlife.
Day 3: Optional Activities in Kibale & Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Clients can choose from optional activities in the morning, such as a Chimpanzee Habituation Experience (full-day, optional upgrade for an additional supplement) for an extended period with the chimpanzees, or a guided forest walk to explore the diverse flora and fauna of Kibale. In the afternoon, clients will embark on a scenic transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park (approximately 3-4 hours), known for its diverse ecosystems and wildlife.
Day 4: Game Drive & Boat Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park
Today is dedicated to exploring the rich wildlife of Queen Elizabeth National Park. An early morning game drive through the Kasenyi plains offers opportunities to spot lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and various antelope species. In the afternoon, clients will enjoy a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. This channel is a haven for hippos, crocodiles, and a multitude of water birds, providing excellent photographic opportunities.
Day 5: Return to Entebbe & Departure
After breakfast, clients will begin their overland transfer back to Entebbe International Airport (approximately 6-7 hours) for their onward international flights. This concludes the 5-day chimpanzee trekking safari.
