This 8-day Kenya and Tanzania safari offers an immersive overland adventure, traversing iconic national parks and reserves in both East African nations. Traveling exclusively by custom-built 4×4 safari land cruiser, guests will experience diverse landscapes, abundant wildlife, and rich cultural encounters. The itinerary prioritizes game drives and scenic journeys, providing a comprehensive safari experience without internal flights.
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi & Transfer to Amboseli National Park
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi, guests will be met by their safari guide. After a brief introduction, the journey begins southwards to Amboseli National Park. The drive offers scenic views of rural Kenya. Upon arrival, check into the lodge/camp and enjoy an afternoon game drive with stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, often visible above the clouds. Amboseli is renowned for its large elephant herds and diverse birdlife.
Day 2: Full Day Amboseli National Park
A full day dedicated to exploring Amboseli National Park. Early morning and late afternoon game drives will maximize wildlife viewing opportunities. The park’s wetlands attract a variety of animals, including hippos, buffalo, and numerous bird species. The open plains are ideal for spotting lions, cheetahs, and giraffes. A visit to a Maasai village can be arranged for a cultural experience (optional and at extra cost).
Day 3: Amboseli to Arusha, Tanzania
After breakfast, depart Amboseli and drive to the Namanga border post for immigration formalities into Tanzania. Once cleared, continue the journey to Arusha, Tanzania’s safari capital. The drive offers a change in scenery and a glimpse into Tanzanian life. Upon arrival in Arusha, check into the hotel for an overnight stay, preparing for the Tanzanian leg of the safari.
Day 4: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Depart Arusha after breakfast and head to Tarangire National Park, famous for its large elephant populations and baobab trees. Enjoy a full day of game drives within the park. Tarangire also boasts a high concentration of wildlife during the dry season, including lions, leopards, and various antelope species. The Tarangire River is a vital water source, attracting animals from far and wide.
Day 5: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park (Central)
After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to the iconic Serengeti National Park, entering through the Naabi Hill Gate. The journey itself is part of the safari experience, offering opportunities to spot wildlife along the way. Arrive at the central Serengeti (Seronera region) in time for an afternoon game drive. The Seronera Valley is known for its resident wildlife, including big cats, year-round.
Day 6: Full Day Serengeti National Park
A full day dedicated to exploring the vast plains of the Serengeti. Early morning and late afternoon game drives will focus on tracking the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo) and witnessing the incredible diversity of wildlife. Depending on the time of year, there may be opportunities to observe aspects of the Great Migration. The Serengeti’s endless horizons and abundant wildlife offer unparalleled photographic opportunities.[6]
Day 7: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti before departing for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a natural wonder. The crater floor is a self-contained ecosystem, teeming with wildlife, including the endangered black rhino. Enjoy an extensive game drive within the crater, often referred to as “Africa’s Garden of Eden.” After the game drive, ascend to the crater rim for overnight accommodation.
Day 8: Ngorongoro to Arusha & Departure
After breakfast, enjoy the views from the crater rim before driving back to Arusha. Depending on flight schedules, there may be time for souvenir shopping or a brief city tour. Guests will then be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for their onward departure, concluding their unforgettable Kenya and Tanzania safari adventure
